YZ250 Starting Problems - HELP PLEASE

Post by ZXR400Lee »

Hey all

Got a YZ250 in my garage at the moment. Cant get the thing to start. Carbs are clean, tonnes of compression, spark plug is good. Try and kick it over, check the spark plug and its then covered in petrol. It'll kind of start and then cut out straight away. I guess its some kind of adjustment somewhere. Can someone help please.

Thanks

you sure the plug is definitely ok? just cos it'll spark when rested on the head doesnt mean it'll spark under compression in the motor. Has the bike been stood a while? might be worth fresh fuel if so, as petrol does go "off" if its been stood a long time. Also try getting the plug hot in the oven before fitting it and kicking it over.

if the plug is excessively wet after just one or two kicks though check for possible causes of over richness - float height, float valve not sticking, choke not stuck on, needle height ok and emulsion tube not worn, pilot screw settings etc etc.

Found the problem, the HT lead and plug cap was looking a bit crap, just replaced it with one I had lying around in the garage, first kick and started up.. 8)

Aint riden a crosser in ages! Just been out blasting around on it.. anyone want to buy a ZXR400? :P

Its not my YZ250.. but I think if I offered the owner ?250 I could have it, plastics need some attention, fork seals need changing, but apart from that!! Its a fully working 250 2t with a recent engine rebuild.

Can you convert pure offroad bikes for road use and have them registered?

You dont want a YZ, you want a KTM, fast as f*ck, light as fu*k, clean as f*ck.

HAy Lee I got a KTM for sale if you want one

But seriously, MX is class, I challenge anyone who says it isnt to give it a go :D

We should have a SWB day out at the MX, if you go schoolboys, its free

Plus you could watch me crash ALOT

I want to buy a piece of crap to re-build. Like I did with the ZXR400. It doesnt always work out cheaper, but you learn the bike and its good too stop you getting bored through out the winter. I wouldnt want a 125cc, I know there quick, but I'd definately want a 250cc.

Things like XR400, 650's, KLR650's, XT660's (all with slight modifications). Hold there value so well.. picking up pigs of bikes still looking around ?1400 mark.
