JESUS HELP ME - Fork Seals

Post by speedy(delboy) »

Attached are 3 pics of the forks from my CB400 Project Big 1, one fork is done and polished and also a pic of a seal which just will not come out.

Anyone any ideas how to get it out.

Have tried everything humanly possible, from heating, blow torch, washing up liquid, bar through the bottom of the fork etc etc

can you get the stantion out with the seal in place? me gs had a funny hex key that slid down the inside of the tube to unscrew the stantion from the lower fork. if you can get the stantion out you could then use a large screwdriver and a hammer to "persuade" it out.

honda fittied similar forks for some time, my CM ones very similar. Normal way to remove seals for future referance is to secure bottom of forkleg in a vice and use slider as a slide hammer to knock it out, heat can be useful at this point and it may take some time but it will get old seals out. Took some time on my CM cos it had been standing soooo long.

Also have to check for wear on slider bush on this kind of fork, they often need replacing when the seal does even if they look in good condition.
