Nurburgring - What can you tell me?

Post by CvPiper »

I have just started plannign this trip, and would be grateful for info from people that have been to help me out. Recommendations of hotels etc.

The plan is a 4 day trip. Leave early one mornign and catch the ferry, continue through the day and get there (500 miles) in one hit, spend 2 nights there, then scenic route return to Calais where I will stay another night, before sailing home and riding back the day after.

Is this too much to ask on the way out? Bearing in mind I hope to have a support car so luggage will nto be on and average speed at 4 in the mornign will be very fast.

I look forward to your suggestions.

Hi CVPiper, myselfand a few of the guys did this last year except we did a stop over in Belgium. Its easy enough to do it in one trip like you are but will be very straining. We decided to stay in cochem and ride to the ring each day as cochem was a beautiful city and there was lots of good pubs. Doing this we got to ride some fantastic roads to the ring as well as riding the ring. I highly recommend this. Other than that there are quite a few hotels around the area, I remember reading about a couple friendly British run hotels around there but cant remember the details. Best people to get in contact with is either Andrew or Boyscout. They used to live over there and Andrew was the one who planned our trip last year.

Failing that we're off again this year however we're hoping to the alps as well, so if your up for doing that you should come along :D

I have had a look on the http://www.nurburgring.org.uk site which had recommendations on routes and hotels etc in the area. I still would liek to get there in one day to make the most of the early start the second day. Will use the roads in the region on the second and 3 rd day as I return to Calais.

Do you have a link to where you stayed? And approx how far was it fromt he ring? Just so I can consider that option properly. How many laps did you do also, I am thinkign 5 or so will be enough and then the rest can be spent riding the nice roads there?

If you go with Sprocket give yourself some distance as he tends to jump around a bit over there.... or should that be jump a roundabout there lol

Yeah that reminds me, watch out for the quick oncoming roundabouts. Sorry but I dont have any details on the place we stayed at, Andrew would know, but age seems to have sorted something out.

I only managed to get in 3 laps before my accident but would have had a lot more otherwise.

It all depends though on the day how many laps you might get in. If it pisses it down stay off the track as its scary as [censored]. Also if theres any major accidents then the ring can be closed down for a while.

Hope this helps a bit.
