Moped broke! (Starting problems!)

Post by Tom »

Right, I may of broke my mums moped
Instead of starting of the electric start, it clicks and then makes a sort of whizzing noise (guess thats the starter motor) but it wont actually start the bike?
Now it starts and runs off the kickstart, but mum cant start it off the kickstart (Woooooooooooooooooooomen   ) So would I be right to get a new starter motor or is something else a miss?
Cheeeers

sounds like starter motor is turning , you would have to remove it to find the problem..........

There is a plastic drive for the kick start that the teeth can get stripped off, I don't know if the starter motor drive the engine using simular plastic cog.

Like Gary said you will have to strip it to see.

Bugggggggger, I sort of thought of something like that, as the click is the starter motor working, bugger, and more bugger, those mopeds are horrible to work on.

Wheres the starter motor on it :D!?

Age your the mech man, but this happened to a guy once on a CBT i did about a year back, am I right in saying there are 2 bushes in the starter motor ?? could be just these which dont cost much.

But knowing me, I am totally wrong

like ash said poss starter clutch - try whacking the starter motor with a bit of wood and a hammer before you take it out or strip it, might free it  can't beat percussive maintenance

The clicking sound is the starter solenoid.

The whizzing sound is most likely the starter motor turning over.

This means the problm is either to do with the starter gear / clutch.

First of all tho u should confirm that the stater motor works - take it out of the engine press the button and make sure it spins.

Mopeds have very basic engines that shouldn't be too difficult to work on - u might want to try and get a Haynes manual for it tho.
so it turns out.........sometime i do give a f*ck
