has it been sat and not run for a while? if so it just may be a pain till you get it going for the first time. If you've been thumbing the button for ages and its not started you may have just flooded it. got any eze-start?

if you completely ran out of fuel you may have just sucked up all the crap at the bottom of your tank. undo the drain screws on your carbs and drain off the fuel, bet you find loads of rusty crap in there.

i dont know what your carbs look like so cant tell you for sure ;) what bike is it? it will either be a hex bolt on the bottom of the float bowl, or a crosshead screw poking out diagonally form the bottom of the float bowl.

the hole in your pilot jets (starter circuit) is tiny though so only takes a tiny bit of rust or dirt to block it and cause problems. try giving it a bit of throttle to bypass pilots and see if it starts that way

if that dosn't work, have you recently been starting it up and driving short distances (like up and down your drive) or revving it while it's parked up? i did that what i got my new bike and it gunked my plugs up, had to get a new set and it worked fine.
i dont have a drinking problem.......if anything, i'm too good at it

that sounds a bit odd on a 4-stroke Tom - when you say gummed up do you mean they were sooty, or oily, or wet?

an inline fuel filters worth it for the sake of a few quid baskie. the fuel pissing out was probably as a result of crap jamming a float valve open

baskie - i've just looked at the second pic blown up - you do have an inline fuel filter in the fuel line - see the clear plastic box with the red band? worth taking it apart and cleaning it too
