Ultraseal

Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with Ultraseal tyre additive?
I don't trust the so called "Glowing Testimonials" bantered about by the suppliers, and bike dealers are usually out to make a quick buck on these kind of things.
So, I would rather listen to the opinions of those who have used it and go from there.
We are going on a 2000 mile round trip to Switzerland next month, and need to get a puncture repair kit, or some of this stuff in the tyres before we leave.
Your comments and opinions will be well received.

I've used this before, I put it in my Bridgestone tyre I had on my ZXR400.. It not a permanent seal, and its only good for about 50 miles at slow speed.

I put it in my ZXR400 before leaving home, followed the instructions, rode from St Ives to Truro and it started getting flat again before Truro, on the way home I was down to completely flat at the Scorrier turn off, so I nipped into Redruth on a flat rear tyre and had a garage put some air in it for me, back to 35psi to get me home, and once there was flat again.

I wouldnt really like to use it again.. but I dont know what else to suggest, also makes a right mess of your wheel and the garages tools when changing the tyre, they were not impressed!!

havent used ultraseal, but i did about 500 miles on a punctured d207 with one of those aerosol get-you home cans recently - it sealed it well and didnt lose any pressure at all, even at high speeds.

re the ultraseal for your purposes - my only thought is if you get a puncture thats repairable, they cant fix it if your tyres full of goo. same goes for thise emergency aerosol ones

I have a bottle of it you can have mate, it goes in the tyre and when it comes to changing your tyre the technician won't be happy at the state it leaves his tools in... If i was you i would get a vulcanised rubber plug/injector kit, they usually come with a bottle of compressed air too though usually only enough to inflate your tyre a little. Tghey're usually about 20 squids.

ZXR400Lee, are you sure it was "Ultraseal"? There are quite a lot of these products on the market but only one is endorsed by a manufacturer.

BMW officially recommend Ultraseal and I can't see them endorsing it if it doesn't work. My Dads been using Ultraseal in tyres on his K1200LTSE for the last few years. He's never had a puncture so has yet to test it but he's no problems with tyre fitters when changing tyres.

I'm sure you've all seen the demos at bike shows where they stick a nail into a tyre 20+ times and it stays inflated. I can't see how they could fix this test and, on that basis, if your doing high miles I would recommend using it.

Definately ultra seal, and I followed the bottle exactly, I bought it off the internet as it was the cheapest place. I was doing high miles, about 300/400 per week, on the bike quite alot, and for those that know me, I dont hang around either. Was quite a big puncture though in the side wall.

I personally have one of those "plug" type kits (sat on the bench rather than in the back of the bike ) because I have never really been a fan of the "gloop" type products (not that i've had to use the plug kit either........)

i'm a slime man, use it on my moutain bike and works great so recently i've put it in the bike but not tested yet, its for inner tubes though which my wheels have,

i'd say a plug kit was best if i had to chose,

ive used one of the slime kits when i had a big puncture, rode over a coke can and put a 2"gash in tyre, filled it with slime and rode nearly flat out from newquay to st austell without losing any pressure or grip, did make a complete mess on the underneath of the ducati mind you

Just seen your questions regarding Ultraseal, as a Triumph Bonneville T100 rider, and a supplier and installer of Ultraseal, I would recommend Ultraseal to all you bikers, as I have it in my bike tyres, and in my other vehicles for 2 years.
The product is installed through the valves, without having to take the wheels off. You will not know the product is there, until a puncture occurs, then you will only know by looking for the telltale dye that appears when the puncture is sealed. The product will help control a blow out, making the machine more manageable. It will seal any hole up to 6mm in the tread area, it will not repair holes in the side wall, or mask any dangerous wound on your tyre.

I am happy to give a demonstration at any meets, or answer any questions from fellow bikers, this prouct can be installed in any vehicle tyre. It is approved by BMW. This is NOT a get you home product, it will last the life of the tyre.

I haven't used Ultraseal but I have used and tested the Goop / Slime products. Sealed a rear puncture, rode for over 1000 miles till the tyre wore out, just needed an occasional top up with air (ZZR600).
When it first seals a hole it sprays out by centrifeugal force and paints a neat bright green stripe across the undertray , swinging arm, and leaves a bright green spot on the tyre where the hole is so it's easy to spot. I'd use it for touring without hesitation.

On the Chicken Run 3 (2005) our back-up driver was the Ultraseal rep for an area up North (i wont mention which area for obvious reasons) and from the man who sells the stuff him, he said, it was crap, however, i cannot say I agree with him as I have never used the stuff, Just going by what the guy told the 5 of us on the Run.

He said something along the lines of, If you have a puncture on the move its ok, however if your tyre has a slow punch, and the hole is not at the bottom when you stop, it will still deflate, due to ultraseal being water based as it will sit at the bottom of the tyre until its moving again.

If you do use anything like it only put it in the back. I put some in the front of mine and it made the front shake at speed. I know someone else that had the same problem and both bikes are ok now having removed it fom the front. You very rearly see a puncture in the front anyway.

Ultraseal, it has worked for me twice and i won't ride without it in me tyres now.

I used to use slime myself but stopped using it when i heard that it can invalidate a guaranteed tyre, saying that i only had problems above 100mph but only a slight shake, it does say on the bottle IIRC that it my affect wheel balance at high speeds, never had a puncture with the stuff either so can't really comment on that neither
