Well that went well up to a point. Five riders in group. Left hand bend with loadsa gravel and mud on it. Lead rider has a twitch, number2 has a little slide, number3 has a proper slide, number4 slides off. We bent the Blandit back into shape, we bent Roy back into shape. Rode on a few miles and stopped to check the old fart (and also see if Roy was okay). I waved the other 3 on and escorted him safely back home to his estate in Chard. Stayed for a cuppa to make sure he's alright and got the bonus of a tour of his magical emporium of wonderful contraptions.

Seems the old bugger still bounces as well as this old bugger did a few weeks back and he promises to be out with us again soon.

Really glad that Roy got back home again and Thanks for going with him Brian.

Really hope your ok Roy never nice to see a rider go down and was really concerned.

The 3 of us managed to continue the ride up to Bude / Bideford area stopped for some fantastic Muncie’s and then headed back. Was the first wet ride that I enjoyed as much as a dry ride. Think there might be something said about these super naked bikes there a good bit of kit.

Just a quick note to say thanks....Rob, Nick, Clive and Roy, for the welcome. Weather could have been better, a bit slippy slidy in places. Breakfast was a bargain. It was great to reminisce about old times and friends.

Well done Brian for escorting Roy home. Think we were all ready to abort the day but Brian stood up to the mark.
Rest of the day consisted of rain, lovely brekkers at westcountryinn.co.uk followed by more rain, mostly rain, lots of rain, even some more rain
Still, bike had a well deserved deep clean and is tucked up in the garage.

Thanks Rob for the ride and to you guys for directing traffic when the bike went over. Had no control, I was just a passenger.
Yesterday it seemed ok to continue the ride as the Bandit rides fine ( the crash bars took most of the damage --brilliant ) but a good decision was taken to ride home, with Brian shepherding me along the way.
The following day with aches and pains and a balloon for a left arm, I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself, although I thank my lucky stars as it could have been a lot worse.
I hope to be back on bike soon.

A timely reminder that our roads have never been in a worse state, either because of weather, poor maintenance or feckin tourists. They're pretty dangerous places, especially if Red5 is on the ride - what's that now, Nick..... 4 rides with bikes down in the last year that you've been on?!!

Seriously Roy - bin those 1985 Cheng Shin tyres. I think you've had your money's worth by now.

Roy, glad you and bike will be ok, hope your recovery will be swift .From what I've read you would still have been in trouble no matter what tyres you have.

In all fairness, tyres weren't the issue. Sure, Roy hit it but once in the gravel it was a foregone conclusion.

There does seem to be a fair bit of stuff on the roads at the mo. We went for a spin today and there were a few corners with gravel. No rain though.

I think the heavy rain we've had in places recently have washed a lot of gravel and even small rocks onto the tarmac and car and van tyres will clear the bits their tyres go through leaving you with a very narrow couple of wheel tracks to stay in.

I got caught in a massive thunderstorm in mid Devon and there were rivers of muddy water running off the fields bringing all sorts of shite onto the road. Didn't buy the Z4 to go off roading but it felt like it at times

When Google maps did their view of that bend there was nothing there other than smooth tarmac that the ace racer boys would be happy to get their knees down on at a gazillion mph. We rode to the conditions, about 40mph, and the crap was unsighted and almost impossible to avoid. I didn't see it until I was on it and Roy got caught out. Could have been any one of us went down there.
