The karma add-on is a rating system that he modified.
There are absoulutley 1000's of 'extras' that are available for the php forums. It certainly wouldn't take much searching/modifying to find one.

some good posts keep em coming
Jason it has been quite clicky in the past but as you say it's getting better ( I wonder why?)
In my experience I have found the majority of people That I have met through swb have been great peeps
It is hard when we meet up to get around to see and to speak to everyone.

You do get the occasional nuisance, but most of us are used to Age now
I think it's one of the friendliest forums around - and although it does get a bit clicky sometimes I think it's much better lately. The pub meets are great fun, - JonB you'd still know plenty of people at them.
Suggestions : well there's the one I posted the other day - about putting a thank-you button on threads - it doesn't up the thanker's post count, but lists those who've said thanks.
Membership benefits - difficult to know what more people want - supporting the site is my main reason for being a member - it's not that I want special privileges or recognition, I'm just happy to help Dave pay for running it.

well i do like smilies, some times you can wright a post and only mean it jokingly so if you put a smilie on it, it just means you are joking if you dont people wont relise your just kidding
Thought of a real good idea last night, bit late to post though, but what about on the 'board navigation' our biking routes' title speaks for itself, but basicly a whole load of biking routes for an easy refrance, you know what its like you think ah i really fancy a ride bored of the usual but dont fancy going up a road thats crap, so you can add a route maybe a litttle route finder with it so you can print it off and finally use the tank bag, (map bit) that i still have not used and still has the tags on since i bought the damn thing 2 years ago, dont know how easy that is to set up though dave?????

ok - theres loads of fantastic ideas already here so i try to add something usefull if i can...
i really like the route planner that geordie just said - excellent idea...
i like the smileys - like geordie said it how to let someone know youre not serious and to be honest some people do seem to take themselves a bit seriously on here at times.
dont really know what the karma things about but sounds cool.
topics posted in the joke section could be limited to that post and then locked...
i'm very happy to pay my membership irrelevant of extras and stuff but they are always a bonus - i'm just happy i have more people to go for a ride with so most times theres always some one up for a blast...
couple more smily options would be fun...
overall - top site!!!

I think that there should be able to post a couple of replies...maybe 5... because a lot of people like to get feed back on jokes they leave on here!!

Some observations from a newbie, please note that I would not have shared these views if they had not been solicited...
First the easy one:
Read/unread - could we have the forum setup so that posts are only marked as read when either they have been read, or a mark as read button is pressed i.e. not mark everything as read when you logout?
Now for what is probably a more controversial view:
As has already been mentioned I find some of the replies really pointless & it generally appears that they are made by people who are new to the site and do not have paid membership. I wonder whether it would make sense to have an area that is read/write accessible for non-members (perhaps the Other Stuff section), a next level that is read only accessible (perhaps Talk Bikes) and finally a members area which is only viewable by paid up members. My theory is that this would stop the people who are 'passing traffic' from filling all areas of the forum with crap.
BUT the difficult one is publicising the real benefit of this forum, which I perceive to be the opportunity to meet up regularly. I am here because I hope to meet up for rides etc in addition to the online chatting. So, the rideouts and meets section clearly needs to have some visibility to attract new members.
This for me presents a potential issue, I am uneasy posting in the rideouts/meets section because as it currently stands any Tom, Dick or Harry (no offence to the Tom's!) can then see when I will be out on the bike/not at home. I accept that even in a Members Only Area there is still little restriction to the information but at least there is some sort of control...
Perhaps we could have a public rideout/meet 'calendar' but the discussion of it and full details (times, attendance etc) could be conducted in a members only area, essentailly behind 'closed doors'?
As an aside I am surprised that this thread is not in the Members Area
It'll be interesting to see what people think
Routes section sounds like a great idea (but get it in the members area

)
Above is why I rarely post, it normally turns into War and Peace, ho hum, back to lurking

id agree with that - locking a post so its impossible to recieve any feed back on it is daft.
besides pure smilie posts are no more or less pointless than having to see someones sig everytime they post.

I'm sorry. I do swear occasionally - generally at the bike in the garage, ( or the wife when I see the credit card bill

) but rarely in public / never in non-adult company. It really annoys me to be out with the kids and have them subjected to others "F*'in this" and "F*in that" without any consideration for other people nearby .... how do you know the age of the person viewing the site
On another note, how about access to a few of the common smilies by the quick reply box?

It has nothing to do with not having an adequate vocabulary.
this is the only bike forum I frequent that has such a childish level of censorship. Fair enough if im on a forum about family holidays but this is a bike site lets presume that the majority of people viewing it are over 16.
shit

oh dear....

The reason the censorship button are in place is because a lot of younger people read the threads, like my 2 daughters, Jaks daughter, Bondy's kids to name just a few.

Cant fault the site, I think myself and others made their selves very clear recently to thread high jacking and general rubbish posts and this seems to be getting better. I personal think that paying £10 is a small price to pay for meeting decent like minded people including speedy. I think keeping the joke section segregated is a good idea and also locking them after the first post sounds good I’m certainly up for a laugh but they can be a pain especially the recent bombardment
Is it possible for a yellow / red card system relating to abusive language (not that I [Censored] swear you twat)
Sorry
