Metzeler Sportec M5 pair deals

Post by Tvrv37 »

I get the fact that tyres are a contentious issue and everyone has their favourites. However just picked up a pair of Sportec M5 Interacts for £149.99 from M&P all sizes. That was a £90 saving for me.

Just priced up a pair of M5's from Oponeo and they come in at £164 delivered, so it's still a good deal if you are looking right now.

Currently got Bridgestone T30 evo's on my 990SD but the rear has worn more at the soft side of the soft/hard interface so there is now small step down when moving towards the edge of the tyre.

I can't actually feel it when riding but it's odd to see it. I was thinking of moving to a Conti Road Attack 2 next as they are reasonably priced and have a variable compound (supposedly) rather than just a dual compound.

I am a big fan of Metzeller and used to have M5's they are not a bad tyre at all but did find them not so grippy on my sports bike but the M7s are epic and have been using them for years. Have to say that the M5 were great in the wet or the dry and and due to the hard centre did some great mileage.

I used to use M5s. and have actually gone back to them for the Busa at that great price. Please note, this may be a one off, but it took M&P over three weeks to get a pair to me (190/55 and 120/70) and I notice they're manufactured in 2012.

2012? That's not good. I read somewhere that tyres lose their stickiness as they get older. Perhaps they don't if stored well?

That's why I like buying from Oponeo, this is their policy on tyre age.

DOT code – What is the date of production of the tyres on your website?
Our company ensures the highest quality in the products that we sell. All the tyres that we offer are new, and of an age not higher than 36 months (according to the recommendations of most automotive clubs, among others Allgemeine Deutsche Automobil-Club [ADAC] and Touring Club Schweiz [TCS]). The high online shop standards of Oponeo.co.uk are completely in accordance with tyre manufacturers’ guidelines which acknowledge tyres not older than 3 years as brand new.

Oponeo.co.uk is also committed to the proper storage of tyres and the constant rotation ensures that 90% of the tyres we sell have a production date less than 1 year prior to the date of sale.

In the case that in spite of our best efforts the tyres bought by a customer are older than 36 months, we offer the customer a choice: we will either take back the tyre at our own expense or offer the customer a discount of 10% for tyres which are older than 36 months.

Oponeo are good. Price always close. Delivery within couple of days. Never had a tyre from them even near 12months old.

Yep I've used them and had good results but I normally buy relatively new designs so there's no chance of them being out of date.

That 3 year limit is still a long time though.

I pulled this off the old interweb from motorcyclist online. Although you do worry about taking advice from people who can't even spell the word.

"A one-year-old tire is considered very, very fresh. In fact, most tire companies put the "sell by" date somewhere out around five years from the date of manufacture. So unless you don't expect to wear the tire out within five years from the date that's stamped on the sidewall, don't sweat it
Here’s what happens as tires age. Tires are subject to a process called oxidation, whereby oxygen interacts with compounds in the rubber causing them to harden and eventually become brittle. As the rubber oxidization increases over time, tire performance decreases. Thankfully, oxidation in tires is a relatively slow process, but it can also occur to a motorcycle that is stored improperly. Concrete will leech the moisture out of the tires and can speed up the oxidation process".

Last year I changed all 4 tyres on my van... looking at the dates they were approx 16 years old and had become so tough that they were hardly even wearing anymore... wet grip had suffered substantially... and the road noise had got to annoying level over 60.

The new tyres as bliss...
