Find me a bike for summer..

Post by Varcon »

Well, after the best part of a decade out of the saddle, Id quite like to pick up a little bike next year in time for spring/summer. I did have a little stint with a GSXR 600 a few years ago, but probably due to a lack of confidence/cold weather/early mid life crisis (I had just got married... =)) ) I didn't really get on with it that well.

I quite like the idea of a Street Triple, but Ive also been looking at the KTM Duke 390 / 690 if anyone has any experience? I don't think I have the confidence/ability for a sports bike, yet anyway. So something more 'sensible' might be better to ease me back into it.

Advice welcome... Ive been aware from the biking scene so long I dont really know what it has to offer that well.

My Mrs will likely be selling her MT-07 in the new year if you're still looking then.

Good luck with the bike search anyway. :D

Look for some thing with enough low down torque that you don't have to rev it's nuts off to get anywhere. Makes for much nicer riding on the road.

But why wait for summer? We've ride outs going on now that you could join.
old and disgraceful so doing what I can while I can before I can't

Hi Varcon

Having got back on a bike in 2010 and also had a GSXR 600 K1 for many years I then swapped to a GSXR K7 1000 which was a mistake as way to powerful for road use. More recently I have swapped over to a medium weight naked bike and spent some time going through what I liked and didn't like. Several people on here got aggravated by my never ending story of updates..... however if your in the market I have done all the work for you and it just might be helpful.

Check out this link to the forum thread viewtopic.php?f=4&t=100451

And also I did a YouTube series on the subject if you interested in live reviews of the different bikes follow this link for the play list of 10 vids. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzVR ... CYdDzyHr9l

Hope you find this helpful in your search.

Let us know how you get on as personally would be really interested in what you go for.

Have to agree with MT07 as an excellent place to start. Also consider cb650f or z650/ER6. All good fun bikes comfortable and fast enough to get back into it. If you are thinking new the Triumph Trident is receiving excellent reviews and may even top the MT07
Honda CB1000 GT (on order), Honda CB1000r, Aprilia Tuono V4R for the track, Yamaha RD250E,

If you find it hard to get to sleep for a month have a look through Robs bike appraisals.
