JIS screwdrivers

I was amazed to find in a recent discussion with the gang how many long term riders weren't aware that the Phillips/Pozidrive looking screw heads on Jap bikes are actually JIS, Japanese Industry Standard. You really ought to use the correct screwdrivers on these if you want the screw heads to remain undamaged - the right tool for the job. Saying that, I believe some newer Japanese bikes use PZ fittings. However here are links to screwdriver sets on fleabay and a good article on BikeGremlin:-

Cheers for the links Herr P

. I'd only recently learned of the JIS screwdriver thing myself.

Although aware of diffences between between Phillips and Posidrive , I didn't know about JIS.
For decades I've used Philips screwdrivers in all crosshead screws unless the screws were of the obviously posidrive by applying 75% push in and 25% turn.
The Phillips drivers are years old and dressed a few times but have worked fine using my routine; but after reading the bikegremlin they are going to be junked for a full set of JIS/Posidrve drivers.
Thanks Brian.

Hang on a minute, Roy - did you actually say you're going to junk something?

Been using them for years. I read something about the screwdriver in the Jap tool kits being better than Phillips screwdrivers even though they are cheap and it's because they are JIS.

I think you are using your hammers wrong.

For the technically minded those are "ball pein hammers" as found in most car repair workshops where old fashioned panel beating takes place.

Yeah, you find ball Pain hammering when you grab a handful of front brake without bracing first.
