Jailed Cornish biker

Post by RobG »

Just heard the report on the news about the Cornish biker who caused a car to turn over and nearly kill a young girl who was in the car. He got the maximum of 18 months in prison. They have laid it on thick, he was riding a Gixer and they have gone overboard in saying his visor was illegal and his bike had been tampered with to give extra performance as he had an Akraprovic race can fitted. Apparently he was spotted doing 100mph+ by other motorists before causing the accident near Newquay. Makes you wonder how long we can all get away with cans and visors, even superbikes after listening to reports like this.

Well as long as you do not go around upseting other road users you should be ok.
It's not about speed it's about trying to be safe and sensible. 8)

Dunno, maybe they swerved to avoid him. Although I feel sorry for the injured girl, it makes me laugh how they report on his "Tampered with bike" but probably wouldnt even mention it if it was a Corsa that was involved with tinted glass, lowered with a loud back box!

Well I can only go by what was in the first post. He caused a serious accident and was reported travelling much too fast on public roads. We all know the law.

Sorry but going over limits is not an instant guilty for a biker in my eyes...

If you look up the definition of law, it will be something along the lines of "what is socially acceptable in the public community"...

Theirfor it's a bit arrogant to automaticly assume that any biker riding over any given speed limit is automatically at fault...

Like I said I would want to see the full facts rather than making a quick harsh judgement on just a few sentances!

I think people are getting paranoid about speed, so much so that it's more important to them than actually riding/driving safely...

I have to say the only time I keep the needle spot on the speed limit is when going past camaras, the rest of the time, I'm looking ahead, planning my journey, trying to get where I'm going in a safe and progressive maner, if my needle goes over the limit, I'm not going to loose any sleep over it...

Question that should be asked is, was the bikers actions in this case reckless, and that my chums we cannot determine without the full facts :)

It was on Spotlight on friday evening
it said from prevouis reports he was riding like a idiot," using the roads like a race track and was doing in-excess of 100 MPH cutting up cars and crossing double white lines, he showed no care for other road users"
and then they showed a pic of his bike  In 2 bits totally ripped apart..........

If your riding like a twat, then you gotta expect whats coming...but it was the manner in which they went over the top about his visor and his "tampered with machine for extra power"....a bloody end can! Also, the only way they knew his speed was from the judgement of other road users at the time, who were car drivers. I wasnt saying that the biker was right, just the manner of the report

Hmmm. We're not talking about a few miles over the speed limit though are we. If he was exceeding 100 mph then he was AT LEAST 30 mph over the limit, an excess of AT LEAST 42%. Currently that means an automatic ban. I think it should be counted as de facto dangerous driving and carry a mandatory prison sentence, certainly in the case where a so-called 'accident' is caused.

I've been looking online but still can't find anything about it :(

Crossing double white lines ain't good, someone (no names mentioned) I know from this forum did that and almost got hit by an oncomming car round a blind bend!

Sounds like this bloke in this case was a bit of a munter, shame I can't find anything on it :(

Problem is things like this turns the attention to other bikers in the area, been looking on the Devon and Cornwall police site and more and more it seems they are now focusing on bikers, not good :(
