Speed scameras this weekend

Post by chris_1127 »

beware this weekend - theres a major revenue earning, erm i mean safety campaign specifically targetting bikers this weekend - see this evenings herald express.

BIKERS TARGET OF SAFETY DRIVE
Next Story | Previous Story | Back to list

11:00 - 23 March 2005
An Easter safety campaign is being launched in Devon and Cornwall to cut the worrying toll of motorcycle deaths on the region's roads.

The initiative has been deliberately timed to coincide with the unofficial start of the biking season. A spokeswoman for the Devon and Cornwall Safety Camera Partnership said: "Sadly, this particular weekend historically sees a sharp rise in the number of motorcycle accidents on the roads throughout Devon and Cornwall, meaning a very unhappy Easter for some."

Motorcyclists represent a large percentage of road casualties in proportion to their number.

"In fact they make up less than one per cent off road traffic accidents, but suffer 14 per cent of deaths and serious injuries," the spokeswoman explained.

Last year 23 motorcyclists were killed on the roads of Devon and Cornwall. The total is said to be comparatively low against other UK forces, but the Partnership says the figure is still too high. "We are committed to seeing these figures fall rather than rise this year," said the spokeswoman.

Speed is said to be a major contributory factor in the majority of all accidents on roads across the region. But there are additional risks for motorcyclists who are less protected and whose machines have less contact with the road surface than cars, particularly when overtaking or negotiating bends.

The partnership is urging road users to stick to the speed limits and reduce the possibility of accidents by monitoring the roads carefully.

Extra mobile units will be on duty from Good Friday through to Easter Monday, taking up high-profile positions along the Devon Expressway, the A30 and the A374 from Torpoint to Trerulefoot.

Natalie Hatswell, communications manager for the partnership, said: "This region has a particularly enthusiastic biking community. We expect to see a great deal of its members out on the roads this weekend, especially at the charity Megaride on Easter Sunday at Plymouth.

"Most bikers are extremely responsible and ride with care, but we have caught motorcyclists travelling at over 130 mph on our roads. Although they are few and far between they do risk hurting not only themselves but other road users as well."

She added: "We would like to see bikers really enjoy this weekend. It would be such a great start to the season if there were no accidents and no speeding tickets issued to either drivers or riders. We are looking forward to welcoming people to the region for the weekend, and our only hope is that the same number of people leave as have arrived."

Never having broken the speed limit before  I feel that this initiative along with all the other (anti) biking initiatives to be discriminatory as always.
Maybe educating all these Sunday/ Garden centre drivers to be more aware of bikes would be a good start. How often have you heard of a mate being knocked of or droppin it cause some idiot turned right or didnt see him?
The figures quoted also are not a true representation of the facts because all 2 wheeled vehicles are included, scooters, commuters etc not just pleasure bikers.

How the hell do we have less road contact when overtaking :?: :?:
You can bet your bottom dollar this spokeswoman has never had her thighs wrapped around a bike as a pillion let alone a rider.

If bikers suffer 14% of fatalities and injuries on the road then I'm assuming 86% are car and van and lorry drivers. :?: :?: Discriminate against bikers ,Never. :!: :!: :!:

This as always is just for revenue, in my opinion. Easy targets.
Well thats my rant over with for now.

Well bikers are, have been and always will be a soft target for stupid and plain pig ignorant media stories, so get used to it.
As for stupid pig ignorant drivers don't expect that to change either. You have to make up for car drivers deficiencies yourself. Never overtake when a junction is coming up, left or right, simply assume the wan*er in front is going to do something dumb. And so on. Town or country assume the basta*ds are out to get you. Ride defensively full time. It would stop half the whinges we bikers come out with before they get a chance to happen.

so be warned!!! if your doing torpoint twistys ride like a poof for the whole 13 or so miles !!!!

then when your at torpoint watch all them p i s s e d up boy racers falling out the pubs and hoping into there cars!!!!

But who will get pulled over?????? the biker because he dosent only pose a danger to himself it's to other road users too!!!!

Why dont they set up a road side breath test centre like the DVLA do to check random cars??? Now that would be a good idea but i suspose it dosent line there pocket so well does it???

MMMMMMMMM you trying to teach BOSS to suck eggs boy.
As for having a whinge, it is my rightin a democratic society.
Ride defensively, I got a bloody full suit of titanium armour, government issue leg guards on my bike and its chipped not to go above 50mph. I got eyes in the back of my head and my ass and never ride it unless its on a trailer. I also got a parachute that deploys at 49.5 mph.
I look forward to many years of happy biking if the powers that be will still let me.

Spot on CBR Sam the little scrotes always get away with it. But not much longer, I,m now polishing my Dirty Harry Special and the king edwards to shove their exhaust pipes.
Anyway gotta go my therapist appointment beckons.

Just for a laugh, I might ride the torpoint this week at 30mph end to end.

Just to take the piss a bit

When I got stopped on Sunday, the VERY NICE chap that stopped me said that Small Numbers usually mean 'Antisocial Riding'....

WTF ? ? ?

I don't speed in built up areas, I don't speed through cameras at 130mph.

Does he really think that having a number plate the size of a hippo on the back on my bike is REALLY going to slow me down.

Unless they put a number plate on the size of a tank & weighing the size of a Volvo, I'm not gonna be anymore 'Antisocial' then I am already.

"Oh no, the letters on my numberplate are now an 8th of an inch bigger than the they were before"
