Alarms
Hey all,
At the moment I am bidding on a alarm, and it looks all good, but it looks easy to install as everything I see if plugin.
Will it actually be as easy as it looks? Lol
Did any of you fit yours, will it drop my insurance? If not im not worried I just hope it will increase the value of the bike a bit.

what alarm is it?
Really needs to be a thatcham cat 1 if you want it to impact your insurance (e.g. Meta 357t or datatool system 3 ).
and I wouldnt install one of those yourself as they definately arent plug in and go and most insurers ask for an installation certificate as proof that its there anyway (or mine did anyway).
Still worth putting on if its not and it is a cheapo better than nothing and youd expect it to maybe help the bike sell.

The reason Im not buying new for ?125+ is because I cant afford it

Re: Alarms
Hello mate, if you decide to buy one and you want help fitting it then I am more than willing to help as long as you bring your bike to me (Plympton) I know what Im doing with most alarms and have all the right tools and stuff. The Datatool is a better alarm and is Thatcham approved, dont know about the other one though. You can always PM me

Re: Alarms
Im saying that with an alarm like Datatool, Meta etc you are getting a decent product, designed to do the job. Some of the so called motorcycle alarms on ebay are not really designed for bikes. That particular datatool looks OK but obviously its been removed from a previous bike so who knows? You can buy a new Datatool for about ?120, if this one goes cheap enough then its worth a look.

Re: Alarms
.......that other alarm seller says he can supply the instructions before you chose to buy, might be worth getting them sent to you first. I have fitted one of those before but cannot remember the make. It worked OK but its not insurance approved and dont know what they are like long term

rob seeing as ur the man with alarms can i ask u a question. Im on a real budget at the min, and basicaly i got no locks on my SV400S (was a track bike hence no locks honest, lol) Furry can confirm this.
Anyway, i need a cheap alarm that can basicaly turn ignition on and off. The bike wont ever be realy left on her own out where she can bee seen so only realy want so i can tunr ignition on and off, and seeing as puting barrels in is gona cost me at least ?60 then im sure i can get an alarm for that. What should i be looking at that will do that? anything cheap that will turn bike on and off!

Re: Alarms
MMMmmm, so your looking for a device that will remotely switch on the ignition and then start your bike? Are you actually after an alarm at all, or just a means of switching it on? If its just to switch on, then a 12v remote engine start will do it. That alarm that hilljd00 was looking at on ebay has that feature or you can buy them from a company called wolfe electronics but that would work out more expensive than fitting a new barrel. Failing that, you could always for a switch which is man enough to handle the ignition current
