sprockets

Post by Tom L »

i know if you drop a tooth on your front sprocket you get increased acceleration. but whats the effect of getting another tooth on your rear sprocket. I realise beacuse it's so much larger it might not have a noticable effect, i ordered a new set and instead of the 37 i had on my old ones this one is 38?

has the same effect, but puts less strain on your chain. depending on gearing though you probably need to go up a couple on the back to get the same effect as one down on the front

Minus 1 on the front is = to + 3 on the back

Remember thou, if you go bigger on the back you will have to probably get a new chain as well.

if you dont get a new chain (longer) youll find the wheelbase will shorten, and make the bike more twichy. thats if you go up on the rear sprocket.

i bought an iris x gold chain, new front and and rear sprocket, just fitted them all today, it was only when i looked closer at my old sproket i realised my new one had an extra tooth, with this give me the tinest bit more acceleration, probably barely or not noticeable?

It will give you more, just not as sharp as dropping one at the front, as speedy says, +2/3 on the back = minus 1 on front

Yeah lose one on the front and gain a few on the back, then try to get the front in the air....should find it easier! It will probably make a noticable difference though to be honest.

cool guys, thanks for the info. Took it out for a spin today in the rain beacuse it got impatient waiting for it to dry up, came round a corner, gave it a bit of gas and the back wheel started spinning, scary but good, cant wait till i get a chance to take her out for a proper ride now.
