It has been suggested that we do a little fund raising on this event and I have started this thread to let people vote which charity the money goes to.

They are all very worth while causes, but best to stick to one for this particular ride

How about The Devon and Cornwall Air Ambulance

as they do a stirling job, and they have even help a couple of members on this site.

Jay, not sure if there is a Devon & Cornwall one, isn't it just Devon Air Ambulance and then Cornwall Air Ambulance ??

If, the Air Ambulance wins, then suggest Devon Air Ambulance as that's where the majority of the site members are from.

I've put air ambulance but would also like to suggest the Neuropsychology Department of Rosehill Rehabilitation Unit as they do a stirling job and have treated many bikers with brain injuries following accidents...

what funky said - a friend of mine was in rehab there for some time after bouncing an exup off his head, and is now leading a normal life so definitely worth considering.

Thinking about it know, i am sure its the Devon air ambulance. It gets my vote.

However I do go by the sentiment of donating to a Neuro-unit. Of the 22 patients I have, 5 are due to motorbike accidents. That is just at the moment, seen alot more in the past. There are many units locally:

NHS:
Mardon (exeter)
Mount Gould (plymouth)
Rowans Unit (Plymouth)
Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital

Private:
BIRT, a non-profit organisation (The Woodmill, cullompton)
Rosehill
Headway (a good charity)

I would still like the money to go to Devon Air Ambulance though as early intervention makes my life easier! Also except BIRT all the organisations above are funded privately or by the government, so if a Neuro Unit was to get the money, send it to the Woodmill in Exeter as they do a superb job.

Can I also suggest that Freewheelers EVS be considered for a donation as well in view of the biking connection, the great work they do and as they're local:

Riding For Life: A registered charity founded in 1991, Freewheelers EVS has a coverage area that includes Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol, Bath and West Wiltshire. Freewheelers is one of a number of groups that cover different parts of the country.

Our lifesaving service to the NHS is provided free of charge and is funded entirely by public donation and sponsorship. We are often referred to as blood bikes but we do much more, transporting test samples, patient notes, X-rays, drugs and other medical supplies. In 2006 we made more than 1800 deliveries - a 50% increase on 2005. Details of our work can be found in our 2005 Annual Report and our Constitution.

Freewheelers EVS operates a fleet of specially adapted Honda Pan European motorcycles equipped with high visibility markings plus blue lights and sirens for emergency use. These enable us to save lives by delivering urgently required items. If our service did not exist hospitals would be forced to use a costly and potentially slow taxi or commercial courier.

Freewheelers EVS is run entirely by volunteers. All our riders hold an advanced motorcycling qualification, such as the advanced riding test by RoSPA, IAM, or the BMF. We also have a dedicated team of fund raisers and telephone co-ordinators. Incoming requests from hospitals are categorised by the on-duty co-ordinator as non-urgent, urgent, or emergency and the nearest of our three duty bikes is dispatched to assist.

Whilst ther air ambulance always gets my support because of its direct impact on us, they do have a very good public profile and publicity machine. The money we are likely to raise is relatively "small change", and they do have the B2B run to provide us an opportunity to contribute.

Before voting, I would suggest people look carefully at the less obvious groups like the childrens hospive, Freewheelers, etc.
