Just received the estimate with photos of the crash damage to my bike.

This is what it looked like before the crash.



How much do you reckon to fix it then - including all parts, materials and labour?


Frame LH peg bracket fixing point bent, swingarm scratched


Gearshift snapped, bracket bent


LH bobbin damaged


LH crashbungs damaged


LH fork crashbung damaged


LH Headlight fairing scuffed


LH mirror bent,clutch master cyl, lever, bar end scuffed


LH radiator shroud scuffed


LH silencer dented, side cover scuffed


LHF footpeg bracket + peg damaged


LHF indicator lens and screen scuffed


LHR footpeg bracket damaged


Petrol tank is scratched


Radiator is dented


RH mirror bent


RH shroud scratched by handlebars


RR lamp cracked


Sidestand scuffed


Top yoke + handlebar clamps damaged

im guessing if the swing arm was scratched the insurance company would try fitting a new one? my guess is around the 2k mark.

I'm just glad I had the R&Gs on - otherwise I reckon they would have written it off.

Still - the other party's insurance paid and I have it back now - complete with newly painted black swing-arm. I've just been out for a blast on it and everything is as it should be.

Not quite

I know of three 1098s that have had sub-30mph offs and been written-of with repair bills of over £16K. Same thing happened to my 998.

Here's the breakdown of costs from my repair. It is more than I expected but you can see how it adds-up.

- Parts: £1,890 (including a new pair of Akrapovics @ £763 and a new pair of Rizoma rear-sets @ £315)
- Specialist repair & paint operations: £1,210 (inc. radiator, tank, foot-peg mount on frame, swing-arm)
- Handlebar & wheel alignment: £95
- Labour: £720

It's a good job that the carbon Dymags weren't damaged

Don't find the part prices too expensive - it seems to depend on where KTM get their bits, ie brake lever £45+, clutch cover £26?

What frame bungs/swinging arm spindle covers do you have? They look neat, orange ones would look silly on a non-orange KTM.

I do go on that forum from time to time but not much recently (seems to be populated by Americans now) - were thay a 'one off' or is someone making a few? - Do they have an o-ring like the KTM ones?

I saw a pic of the guys bike and asked them where he got them from. He said he made them so I asked him to do me a set (or maybe he offerred I can't remember). It was this guy - Dr F. He said I could tell other people about them as he didn't mind doing them. I'm afraid I don't remember how much I paid him.
