noise testing
how can i get my bike nopise tested before doing a track day ? does anyone know of anyone with a db meter or anywhere that will do it ! cheers
Re: noise testing
I had a DB meter on my mobile phone bizzarely enough.
what track and noise limit is it you are trying to pass and what is your bike and pipe setup?
Mine passed Castle combes the other day (by the skin of its teeth) which I was amazed by I was fully expecting it to fail. If it can pass there it can pass anywhere.

Re: noise testing
i got a 2000 yamaha r6 with a termigoni race pipe ! probs going to be donny ,silverstone or cadwell ! not sure yet
Re: noise testing
I bet the termi aint quiet
I would presume that it wont get through a quiet day without an insert.
does it have an insertable baffle? Most race pipes which also have insertable baffle thingmies can get through quiet day testing.
the easy option is not to choose a quiet day...
silverstone are strict as hell on noise limits, but they where selling and fitting insertable universal baffles to get people through testing if need be (as long as you didnt mind your pipe being drilled through for the retaining bolt) when I went
Never been to Cadwell so dont know about them,
but I went to Donnington on a normal day and noise wasnt an issue - their where people running racefits which are the mother of all noisy exhausts.

Re: noise testing
im all sorted with paddock stands thats no prblem for me lol
Re: noise testing
depends where u go mate, different tracks have different testing methods that yield different results, dont be fooled by "no noise limit" as it is still restricted to around the 105db mark, but my dad has been to donnington 3-4 times this year and has a racefit stubby on his k4 which hurts my ears, and they didnt batter an eyelid
im going rockingham on the 13th september, they are never picky about noise either, last place i was it, think it was pembrey, guy with aftermarket ducati exhausts failed and they did everything in their power to get him on track...

Re: noise testing
If its a 105db day then I would had thought most standard style race cans will be fine. Simons R1 with a Micron race can was tested at Pembrey @ 97db, so quite a way under the 105db limit for the day, that was a static test. May had been a different story if it was a noise test as you ride by.
Simply get a baffle for the can, try it without and if it fails put the baffle in and if that fails just use the standard can. Besides, on most bikes that haven't been setup for a race can, they run better with the standard can anyway

Re: noise testing
maplins sell noise testers that are very accurate
my sp1 with stubby akras was 98db allegedly and so was my 916 with 50mm termis at cadwell. most il4's will pass a noisy day 105db limit with a race can but not a queit day 98db limit where as a vtwin might.
the circuits to avoid are castle coombe and allegedly now brands as theyre down to 102db for a noisy day
donington do ride by tests that are monitored by nottinghamshire council and the limits are very strict so probably best to do a noisy day where they incorporate the fine they face into the cost of the day

Re: noise testing
cadwell are pretty good and follow acu/fim guidelines on how to noise test. if its a 98db you'll be fine without a baffle unless your termi needs to be repacked or has holes in it that it shouldnt have
ps when you off to cadwell as im dying to go back there
