I Did A Funky !

Post by Varcon »

Yup, crashed teh bike today ! First real crash too !!

Was coming round a corner, set the bike up for the corner properly, but i think a mix of inexpirinec, and lack of judgement meant that i failed to observe a load of like rotting leaving and crap in the middle of the road, also lack of good road positioning and possibly too much speed !

Anyway, going into the corner, i start to loose the back wheel, and in my attepmt to correct that i put my line through the corner out, meaning that i saved it from low siding, but i ended yup going right into the crash barrier (lucky it was there really !!)

Anyway, not alot of damaged to me, i clipped my shin on the crash barrier as i went over it, and the bike hit the barrier and slid along it, probably about 30 ft, smashing off an indicator, bending the handle bars, and scrapping the tank - i think it got off pretty lucky tbh !!

You can see here where the bike went into the crash barrier...

And here again, i landed just behind it...

And my bike, you can really see much damage !

He did really well to save it from low siding, but afterwards went off line on the brakes and just drifted towards the barrier.
By the time you were in the barrier you weren't going very fast at all and sort of jumped off to the side and backover otherwise he would of got crushed between the barrier and bike.
Fair play to him though got back on it and carried on for another 170 odd miles.

Ouch.

It is good you are ok and you bike is not too bad. It could have been a lot worse.
I have had the back end come out several times now and it always makes me tense. However, doing trackdays in a rwd car I think has helped my riding. There is a skidpan course in exeter, the feel of oversteer on a car and bike seem very similar and need the same responce to correct it.
Blue Sv650s Curvey - Now unrestricted but starting to find the suspension a problem.
Next bike: CBR600RR eventually.

woah, thought it was you two i saw heading into minehead this afternoon, we had just left dunster and was heading for tivvy when i saw you. i was on the laguna seca rep with 4 mates and you pair looked ok then. the road was very slippery in places and we took it quite steady heading that way

im guessing the bikes were ok as you were riding them and that you'll be ok

Ouch, still much better than actually doing Funky. I'd rather have a few bruises than AIDS.

That road isnt the greatest even mid summer on a lovely day, atleast the railing saved the bike from going down the dip!
