I'm not sure about whether this is legal???

Post by Beejyman »

I'm going on a little trip this summer (to Dubrovnik). I was just testing my luggage and i Noticed that the luggage over laps the indicators.

This would obviously impair the vison of my indicators of driver followin behind, or am I just being a novice dreaming up problems that aren there?

Surely it's about your safety as much as the law? If you think someone following may not see your indicators, how about backing your plan to turn/change direction with hand signals? I have an integrated tail unit on my bike which was on there when I bought it, I don't think the indicators can be seen well enough (only three little leds) as I think the light/brake light drown them out, so until I stick some additional indicators I often use hand signals.

Or just re-mount the indicators down by the tail-light

I got no indis on mine, hand signals when needed, not very often, I only ever find I really need them when theres a possibility of causing someone to brake, ie turning right with someone following behind you etc......

When are you off to Dubrovnik??

I am heading that way in late May to the FIM rally in Zadar http://www.fimrally2009.com and afterwards I intend to visit Dubrovnik and perhaps on down to somewhere in Montenegro

christ.....clean your bike!

I wouldnt get overly concerned about the legallities of it.

be aware that people proabably cant see them and act accordingly. As for riding in the balkans like that most of the locals dont seem to bother with indicators anyway and dont think for a minute they will be taking any note of yours even if you do turn them on (especially if your riding off main routes).

like moose says, on a bike like yours you could relocate them.

if you have a bike like a newer gsxr with with the integrated indicators and the shape of the tail its all but impossible to ride with soft luggage without completely obscuring your indicators. I just accept that they cant be seen and get on with it.

Thanks for the advice guys, I was trying to avoid buying a new light mount and save the cash for spending money on the continent. (the previous owner removed the stock one which would have been perfect).

I leave dover on the 22nd june and return on the 20th july. I have to meet the missus in dubrovnik on the 4th july till the 11th. was thinking of going there via the italian lakes and back via the black forest.

P.S. cleaning my bike is ajob i shall be doing this bank hol. With everyday commuting etc. I will be the first to admit that sometimes she doesn't get the the love she deserves all the time.
