No Can?..

Post by Milky »

Today I was in the process of spraying my rear hugger.. to do so I had to remove my can. Which, inevitably left me having to ride my bike with no exhaust  .. I didnt realise how loud the bike would be without a silencer. I road through Exeter, set off a car alarm and made a kid cry. My ears are still ringing. haha fun stuff! What would happen if I were to be pulled over for having no can? Fine?.. Points? Aswell as a thorough check over my bike?.. Thanks, Tom.

Don't ride it around like that Tom, it will not do the motor any good as the back pressure will be all fooked up, you'll likely get points and a fine if you get stopped, you may be lucky and get a defect rectification notice, but they're more likely to get shittty with you over it.

why could you not put the can back on ? Or why not ride to the sprayers with a couple of spanners in your pocket and take it off there ? Something like riding with no can is an easy pick for old bill and if he is feeling arsey could do you for having an unroadworthy vehicle which could carry points. I think you have to be careful with points inside first 2 years of having a license don't you ?

Well.. actually if was 1992/1993 so the model would actually be an L3. I had the black framed bike and it was an L3.. its stamped in your VIN number. :)

Mine's an L1 with original black frame, seems to be the norm for L1's, despite wikipedia saying the blackframe was introduced in '93...

I was going from ZXR World.. dont use Wikipedia.. From what I understood.. it seemed that only UK spec models had black frames and L2/L3 only..

Nevermind.. 8)

How can you prove the difference between a uk spec l1 and a jap/euro spec one ? When the bikes are that old and so common to have been imported like the nc30s how can you be sure what you've got ??

Its difficult to tell what you have, people can easily modify to change.. some differences between uk and grey import ZXR400's are the CDI unit is different, UK spec ones have a blue sticker and are fully unrestricted. Grey imports have a red sticker and are electronically restricted to 110mph. The obvious mph and kmh clocks. Headlights, UK spec ones have 2 bulbs, whereas, grey imports only have one bulb. Then there is just the point of checking the paperwork.. for instance, if a 1991 ZXR400's paperwork starts from 1997.. gives an idea that its been imported.. those kind of things..

With the VFR400's.. if you pick up an NC24.. you knows its an import, they all were.. with the VFR400 NC30 and RVF400 NC35.. some were UK specs.. but if I can recall they only came in 1 colour scheme..
