Spring puller? Seized in bolts?

Post by tutton »

Anyone got a spring puller for sale perhaps, i just spent over half an hour trying to get the fooking things off
As i have seized up my engine if you didnt know, so im stripping it down etc, 2 bolts are what stand in between me and the cylinder being off, there 2 allen bolts holding the frame brace, that are so close to the frame itself, that when i get any purchase on em with my allen key, either the allen key feels like its starting to bend, or it starts rounding off the allen head.
Anyone got any good tips, bearing in mine these bolts havnt moved for nigh on 10 years now.. got 2 out with great displeasure to my skin.

squirt some ACF-50 in there and let it soak in, it's like uber WD-40

Tried using penatrative (oooer) oil, and wd40, wont get in there enough, there well seized in, thinking maybe a bit of heat?

Heat could help, and if you [censored] the heda of the bolt that are still other ways - if you have any star drives you can give those a whack into the bolt head and use thoe (get one that only ever so slightly bigger than the allen size), if that fail, cut a groove in it with a dremel/hacksaw and try using a flat bead screw driver - if that fails (and you now have quite a [Censored] bolt), try drilling and little pilot hole, and then using an 'easy' out, but be careful here as you are getting to the end of waht the bolt can take!!

Get a set of Irwin removal sockets that are like an easy out reverse spiral flute and grip on the damaged head of allens, bolts, nuts etc. have a look on google or eblag.

Just tried heatgun, no difference, i havnt cut a groove but i know it wont spin, wont be able to get enough torque on it to get it to go with a screwdriver, and because of where it is, cant even get a drill in there :(

The only Irwin removal sockets i can find do bolts, these are allen headed bolts so wont be able to stick a socket over it?
Thanks for the offer jam,
but im currently im the process of removing the cylinder to do a rebuild, and we dont got the trailer anymore.
have whacked loads more oil on them, but its not getting into the threads where it needs to be.

Cheers all.

The irwin sockets should work on allen bolts as well as normal ones.

The Irwin sockets will do nuts, bolts, and allen heads as long as the head isn't reccessed into something, just find one that is the correct size and tap it onto the allen head and then get a ratchet on it and undo it, it will spiral down onto the head and grip it, they are a cracking bit of kit, and save a lot of time and swearing.
