Asda Yeovil ! another one

Hi guys & gals,

Went to ASDA in Yeovil to get some petrol on sunday, nice day (ish) some bikes out, got off took my gloves off picked up the nozel and filled the tank up.

When I got into the store to pay for it, I was meet by a very hostile woman with the words "THATS ANOTHER ONE"
I asked what the problem was and was advised (more like told) that I am not getting fuel next time until I take my helmet off ! did you not see the sign ?

So I thought to myself okkkkkk Ive never had this problem before and asked that if I was going to ride off do you realy think it would be on a £3,500 sports bike ?

I was then meet with the coment "what if a car when into the back of me and we had to give you first aid !" (by this time another two people were ganging up on me from behind) I replied no offence but I raver have a Doctor or a Parmadic give me first aid.

After paying I had a look for this sign and it was about a foot behind the pump asking all motorcycles to remove helmets (surley they would of put this next to the pump where the bike would be parked)

Has anyone else had this problem ?

yeah, i got refused fuel at sainsburys in taunton.

i just try an use the 'pay at pump' thing now as they don't worry about your lid if they already have your card details.

my argument in return has always been when they say u could ride off, what about the passenger in a car that fills up allowing the driver to remain 'ready to go' ?

they still serve them.


it's just that as a law abiding motorcyclist you are actually only one step away from becoming a hybrid of hitler/harold shipman/jesse james and ronnie kray and to commence on your life of high level crime you are gonna ride way without paying your £15.21 for fuel.

Im a seik and they dont dare ask me to take my turban off that would be racist so why should you take your helmet off if you dont want to.

If they wont turn the pump on untill you remove your helmet just put the nozel on the floor and ride off, their console keeps buzzin untill they walk out and replace it.

I just calmly take off my helmet and quickly replace it with a balaclava.

i always take mine off when they ask...but for some reason as soon as i do i'm asked to put it back on asap

Had the solstice on the 303 ask me before. Second time I had my snood on and they rolled their eyes and let me carry on

They have a little trick to let you fill up a few pence and then ask you to take off your helmet.

I have been refused fuel at the Solstice on the A303 as well. So I just got back on the bike and rode on and have not been back since. They reckon its for age clarification....WTF

I got told off at the one at the Whimple end of Rockbeare straight a few days ago but I already had my fuel so I apologised and told them that's their choice and my choice is to fuel elsewhere. They blamed it on insurance? WTF

Both these garages are ones I use in the car as well so its there loss that I do not return

In recent months I have filled up in London Liverpool Manchester Glasgow and loads of other places and have never had a request to remove my Crash Helmet. So why has it suddenly started down "South"?

Some weeks with either the bike or the car I use anything between 100 and 200 pounds of fuel. So to the local garages that do not like me....Who cares there are plenty that do

On another note I nipped into the spar shop in Pinhoe for a pint of milk and they got really stroppy and rude that I had left my crash helmet on. Now I know its a Post office but I was a regular but On that day I just forgot to take it off. There was no reason for the rudeness that I received so once again I shop elsewhere

Is removing ones helmet such an injustice?

Bikes are a popular target for thieves, and bike run on petrol, so eventually theyll need to fill up, wouldnt it be marvelous if someone who'd stolen YOUR bike got asked to remove their helmet, providing an picture of their face for the police to run through usual suspects.

Forecourts across the UK have been using the ANPR system since March 2006, so if your bike is reported stolen itll show up immediately as stolen, and with mateys helmet removed and him most likely paying on card as everyone does, be able to confirm it isnt you (the owner) have evidence he was riding a stolen bike and be able to prosecute, and youll get your bike back.

I dont understand why people whinge and whine about such trivial matters, its for your own good and you know it.

I had exactly the same experience there as you.

It seems in ASDA Yeovil's eyes riding a motorbike makes me public enemy number one. Unusually though it was not the normal reasoning that is given, I guess ASDA have realised too many bikers have strong arguments against the " take it off because we can't see your face", when we are standing there cash in hand ready to pay for our fuel.

On the day in question it was raining hard and I wouldn't have wanted to remove my helmet (I don't usually anyway), as doing so could have meant a soaking wet head to put it back on to. I filled up and went to pay, but on entering the store I was met with the same comment as yo. On enquiring what the problem was I was told like you, I wouldn't be served next time unless I took my helmet off. I enquired why, and was told "because if a car was to run into the back of me, how would they give me first aid". I said, I stand next to my bike when fuelling, so would probably be no worse off than a car driver stood in the same place; with the added benefit of a crash helmet and leathers to prevent serious injury. So what would you do if it happened just at the entrance to your petrol station where I would quite legitimately be wearing my crash helmet. The response I got from the cashier was simply "I don't make the rules!" So I said; just to clarify if the occupants of a car stay inside while the another gets out to refuel, will you be asking them all to get out in case they are hit from the behind by another car; just in case the damage to their car prevents them being rendered first aid? Again " I don't make the rules".

So there I stood helmet on, cash in hand, ready to pay for my incident free tank of fuel, and being treated like a criminal in a Supermarket petrol station. to say the least I was a bit miffed about my treatment, and as such I will not ever (in car or on bike) be returning to ASDA for fuel; quite possibly not for groceries either
