My bike decided to try to scare me today...
I went out to the garage (all geared up except helmet & gloves) and popped in the key, took the steering lock off and pushed the start to fire it up and...
BANG!!!
I almost jumped out of my skin, it was like a gunshot...
The bike then refused to start for ages but once started it ticked over fine with no need for choke at all and sounded as smooth as ever...
What would cause it to do that? (had a faultless ride including a re-fuel and started first push).
Oh its an 06 Hornet 600

Possibly a sticky float in one of the carbs allowed fuel to drain into one of the cylinders ..... if it's a one-off don't worry, but if it continues then a strip & clean of the carbs might be beneficial

Do you blip the throttle when you turn the bike off?
Some Hondas I know will gas up the inlet tracts this way, when you start them next (usually after a short period of being off) they will back fire through the inlet.
My blade would occasionally blow a cover off the vacuum take off point cover, another I knew actually blew the carbs off the rubbers.
Just turn the bike off with no throttle and start with no throttle.
And yes, it sounds frightening!!
