Dash Problems

Post by Mini_Beth »

The other day I went out on my bike. I accidently stalled it as I was pulling onto my drive and when I started it back up again my Dash started flashing and the rev needle was just all over the place.

I took it out a few days later and it was working fine until 20mins into the ride and the same thing happened again.

Nick (my other half) checked the connections to the dash and they are all fine. But when he went to start it the battery was dead. So we charged it up turned the key and the dash was still flashing.

Its a 2010 600 Hornet.

Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks

I could be wrong but when we have this kind of problem with our cars (MG ZT V8) we disconnect the battery for a couple of hours. This resets the computer/ECU.

Maybe this is not relative to your bike but worth a try. :-?

I had the same problem with a vw passat a couple of years ago and as suggested it was the battery connections. They were connected and tight but they had corroded over time. A scrub with something abrasive and away you go.

If that is the case smear a little vaseline over the terminals when they are clean , it will help slow the corrosion down a lot

Yes Vaseline or Grease.

Did you hear about the couple who didn't know the difference between Vaseline and Putty??

As suggested, eliminate the simple things first - check & clean block connectors/connections first, then get batery checked, then start looking for harder/more expensive things ......

My dash on the KTM went all erratic just before the reg/rec failed. Would lose the speedo and the rev counter needle would stop working for a while, then it would all come back on. Despite testing the reg/rec with a voltmeter with the bike running and all showing normal it still boiled my battery. Changed the reg/rec and everything is ticketyboo again. :)
