A Twist Of The Wrist II

Post by menzies3032 »

Afternoon All (that sounds very police like  )

Following my training this year at British Superbike School and Bike Safe. I am trying to continue my learning and reinforce the messages taught. I have also spent many an hour watching you tube clips of California Superbike School and have recently bought "A Twist Of The Wrist II" and I wanted a place to remind myself of the pearls of wisdom that I have learned that has been improving my riding. Therefore I am going to be using this post to update as I read the book and remind myself of the teaching from my training days.

I hope you find this helpful

Once the throttle is cracked on it is rolled open evenly and smoothly and constantly throughout the remainder of the turn

The line that allows the throttle to be applied exactly by the below statement is an ideal line

Too tight on the bars is the most common source of motorcycle handling problems

There is NO WAY to counter-steer the bike into a corner efficiently after braking with both arms stiff. Be prepared, be relaxed

To effectively and efficiently turn the bike your fore arms need to be horizontal with the handle bars.

Someone better get me a frame builder ...... I need another 6" welded in the middle of the MV - to get my fore-arms flat I'd neet to be sitting on the pillion seat

I can quote a hundred "pearls of wisdom" but it won't make much difference when I'm sat on the bike. Most applicable now is, I think, "I'll never be as fast as I thought I was ......."
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

Handle stressful situations like a dog - If you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away

Get the steering done with one positive motion and don't put any more attention on it. One steering action per turn is perfect.

No problem with bending your arms to hold the handle bar.... actually you need to, to be able to perform the steering motion. But if you are like me and at 45 / 50 deg from horizontal with straight arms just before you try to turn, your not going to get very far... L-)

The purpose of steering is to make direction changes.
The goal of steering is to get through the turn accurately, with as little lean angle as possible.

(for the speed that you are traveling)

Your ability to quick turn (flick) your bike determines your corner entry speed.

Same as playing the piano...you want NO body weight involved in the hand action.

I'm with you Moose, I need to lie on the tank with my feet on the pillion rests to get anywhere near horizontal forearms.
Have you noticed that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac ?
