Fuel pump blanking plate/precision engineering

Post by scorcher »

KTM 950 SM fuel tank rapidly expanding due to ethanol. Have bought a 990 tank to fit, but with that being from a FI'd bike I need to blank the fuel pump mounting hole and use an external pump as per the original carbed set up.

Trouble is , by the time I've measured and drilled etc., it never quite fits, so need someone with some proper expertise and an eye for detail to knock something up. Any body do precision engineering or knows someone not too far from Shepton that could do something? Any idea what sort of costs this will incur?

The obvious answer is an old pump and lose most of the innards and use the original base plate, but pumps are around £90+ 2nd hand and finding a knackered one for less hasn't proved too fruitful.

any other suggestions gratefully received!! (Apart from buying a new bike!)

A wise man once told me get a sheet of clear perspex or similar, mark it onto that over the whole, (as can easily see where your marking) than transfer that onto your material.

Makes life so much easier rather than guestimating where it needs to be,

Thanks.Good idea. Managed to get some Perspex, will probably still manage to cock it up though due to a lack of a vice and never managing to cut a straight line/drill a straight hole for more than about half a second :)): If I can manage to get a couple of bolts in opposite each other I could probably bolt/bond a plate on. Already had to bond the 950 tank due to it leaking in a couple places as swells and distorts.
