Bike Toolbox ?

Post by Belladonna »

Dear Boys and Girls,

I wish to buy a toolbox so I can start doing things on my bike like taking registration plate or seat, pegs etc nothing too complicated. What tools do I need to perform such tasks ? Can you be very precise on what would I need. Is there maybe "Bike tool set for mechanically challenge" or something ?

Thank you ;;)

1/4" socket set a nice one will have screwdriver bits and Allen keys also, (possible torque wrench)
1/2" set with torque wrench for wheel removal refit.
Spanner set 8-19

Screwdriver set,
Tyre pressure gauge,
Vernier caliper for measuring wheel alignment.

Will do pretty much everything you need it to and more,
Anything else would just be a perk.

Depending on how much you got to spend something like ............
http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/ ... panner-set" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

will cover pretty much everything. You'll soon rack up a few quid buying seperate bits and pieces so a boxed set is the way to go and these are well rated and priced well at the moment.

You could buy a smaller metric socket set and spanners (mm's) and a set of screwdrivers and hex bits.

Halfords stuff, as long as you buy the Advanced or Pro range, is the stuff to go for. It comes with a lifetime guarantee. I have only ever had one thing fail, a 600mm breaker bar, and that was replaced without quibble, and without the need to show a receipt or anything.

I have Haynes manual and it reads simple enough so that is why I thought I can manage to do few things on my own as I have no-one to help me "billy no mates" here :(( I found few I like the look of, very shiny ones  But need to wait till I get back from work to get....

Oh and I do have a hammer, I was actually "repairing" some stuff with it other day. Let say my neighbours aren't owners of a pretty wooden table that didn't hold my weight when helping them with Christmas decorations. Oh and no I don't have a ladder and not planning on getting one 8-|

That's good to know but as I remember my tools I had some in past didn't suffer from breakage but things I was "repairing" them did  :-?

Very useful, that.
The following four-letter Acronym should always precede any work on a bike or car if you're trying it for the first time; RTFM! (I'll let you figure out what it means).
If you're short on confidence then ask someone knowledgeable to help and guide you, but not to do it for you as you'll forget most of what you've seen. There's no substitute for getting some hands-on time (oo-er...)
