Yeah do up the Gixxer, it'll make bike owning and riding an ' experience' every trip  ! And if you're bothered, when you turn up at any bike meet on a sorted old school 1100, you'll get loads of attention and people wanting to chat..
whereas if you want to go out, ride fast, clean, then put away till next time...that'll be an R1.

Horses for courses as they say

That doesn't mean I don't love all the hairdressers on here by the way

Why follow the rest of the sheep? Save your money and get an '04 ZX-10R, a proper man's bike, it'll put hairs on yer muscles and scare you witless if it hasn't got a damper on it...
Had mine since new and never really been fussed about getting anything else, the only thing that may have tempted me is the S1000RR, but could I ride any faster on the road with one of them? Not noticeably, and we're already talking jail term territory so it's academic, and it's a bit of an indulgence as a track bike...
Ultimately it's your choice, asking on here will only get you other people's opinions and the one who has to ride it is you.. go round the dealers and test ride a few different 2nd hand bikes to see what floats your boat, then make up your own mind, we can't make it for you... 8)

well im gonna say 98 r1 jsut too be a pain in the ass !, r1s are cool as pengiun piss the 1100 gixer are nice bikes and im a big fan of the gsxr series and allways will be. the 1100 is a bit of a lard ass these days but hey why dont i really annoy you and say spend the dough on doing some trick stuff to the gixxer (no not a bloody fighter either) tis is me talking now but how about getting the suspension set up to your style ad weight , think about maybe getting a set of fibreglass fairings to drop some weight , some nice light weight wheels, etc ill be back on later to see !!
my rides : chinky cafe racer rattler 125 (its a honda cg clone and ive been daring enough to mod it lol ) 28mm flatside carb , ts 125 inlet stub , fmf shorty powerpipe , cbr 400 rev counter,Cbr 400 nc 23 , current mods being striped down ,

Ok then lets look at some stats, 1100 weight over 220kilo dry, bhp 130ish. R1 190kilo dry, bhp 135ish. Personally I think it depends what your looking for from your machine. Go and try some bikes out see how they fit, its the only way from where I'm sitting. Besides you can get loads of free rides, I managed to get almost a whole days worth of riding in once trying trying out dealers bikes. What a laugh. :D

Depends on what you want to do mate, I love my Gixxer K5 600 track bike and find the my 5vy R1 spot on for the road....

But if I had to chose my 6 would win everytime.....but the R1 is a better bike :)):

GIXXER KID wrote:hey guys, well with xmas and birthday coming up soon im considering treating myself,

ive narrowed it down to buying an R1 around 2000 model or spending some pennies doing up my gsxr1100wp.

thought id get some peoples opinions before i decide.

any thoughts welcome :)

doesnt matter how much money you throw at the gsxr1100 the 2000 R1 will always be a much better bike.

so if that is your choice R1 every time.

however for the price of a 2000 R1 you can also get a K1 GSXR 1000.

and that (other than on looks) is another league on from a 2000 R1....much much better handling, easier to ride, and about 15hp more. in short why would anyone buy a 2000 R1 ...it is much slower and handles much worse than the equivalent year GSXR.
