Didi not expect to find

Post by Picks »

whilst stripping the bike down to get the carbs out an airbox choca block with what looked like bird seed !

Husts , empty sunflower seeds looks like some little fur covered fellers been living it up right to the top of the centre of the round air filter element , about the same size as a large jar of coffee ! This lot must have ben putting a strangle hold on the air getting to the carbs !

Anyone else suffered at the hands of a cheese yamaha carb bowl screw , Jesus what a nightmare , ended up cutting a slot and bringing out Mr Impact Drive on two of em ....did the trick .

Replace the float bowl screws with stainless allen screws. You'll regret it next time otherwise. Double check this but I think they should be M5 by 18mm or something like that.

The screws are made soft so the user does not strip the thread on the carb body, very expensive to put right. Also be careful not to snap a corner with the impact driver. The top screws can be a sh!t too!

If you use the stainless allens just be careful not to strip any threads or replace with Yam screws again.

I have a slug or snail living under the bonnet of my car. She (must be by the trail  ) goes for a wander around the bodywork each night. Hopefully it will fall asleep on the turbo.

Are they CV or slide carbs? if they are CV's, check the diaphragms for splits. Also, check all vacuum pipes/plugs from and around the carbs - any leaks from them will produce the symptoms you describe
