Camouflage

Post by Atomic »

Just reading on a different forum about a chap who has bought himself a camouflage jacket.
The idea of DPM is to blend in with the background to make it harder to be spotted.
Do you think we will start hearing about cases of this being the reason why the biker wasn't seen?
I personally don't wear them, but they seem to be getting more popular.

(By the way, I didn't mention it on the other site - they are a bit sensitive).

I think there maybe cases of target fixation , if you come across something bright you look at it and steer to it , I know of a few bikers that say they wil not wear hi Viz and make themselves a target for cagers

Totally agree about hi-viz, majority of bikers are anti them.
I, more often than not, will look the banana, (do I care?),really on what was said by White Dalton (motorcycle solicitors). They have stated that a court will look more favourably at a claim if a rider has done everything in his/her ability to make themself seen. I am not sure that would extend to wearing DPM.
Whilst I have no intention of having an off, I like to think that I have done my best to avert it.

You are quite correct about target fixation. I thought that looking where you wanted to go only applied to bikers, but it happens a lot when I wear hi-viz, car drivers look at me and tend to veer towards me. Also, to be brutally honest, it is almost always an elderly driver.
I must add that it doesn't happen when I drive !

Does that then stand as a case 'FOR' Dpm? When you are in a car you are not wearing or indeed driving a high viz jacket, or driving a High Viz car, you are surrounded by other cars looking all very similar, so are you not 'blending into the surroundings'?

OK that's playing with words, but in my experience you can wear what you want, if the car driver isn't looking, they won't see you PERIOD! Most are too busy glued to Sat Navs, iPods, mobiles and any other gadget designed to clutter dashboards. SMIDSY is nothing new, anyone remember the chap with the cricket bat back in the 70's saying 'Think Once, Think Twice, think BIKE!', nothing much has changed since then, even though more bikers than ever wear some form of High Viz.

There was a hitch hiker wearing camo on the by pass recently, probably still there now wondering why no-ones picked him up.

We used to have an issue years ago with new age travellers camping outside of Ponsanooth, they used to walk on a busy unlit road to & from the garage for fags/diesel etc again in camo gear, it's a miracle none got killed. One did die actually, but he was driving his Land Rover in the early hours with jerry cans full of diesel (long before Asda had their 24 hour garage). Carma not camo this time.

I wear a camo jacket on rainy days. If they can't see the blue bike with bright head lights I'm f*cked anyway. I do see the point though of blending in etc, if only for the litigation aspect.

yep, that's kinda how I feel about it too :(

But, knowing how these things get played out in court, I can see how wearing camo gear could be used against bikers in the future.
If I have to explain, you'll NEVER understand
