ADVICE PLEASE - think the cars fooked!

hope theres someone who knows about cars around...

was driving home and got quite a severe wobble through the steering wheel and a strong pull to the left!!! strong enough wobble to vibrate the car!

checked all nuts are tight etc. and continued with no wobble - thought may be a wheel bearing on its way out?

as i got near home there was a clunk and now whenever i turn right a clanging/banging/clunking noise!!!

have one of the steering rods come loose or something??????????

If its clicking noise when turning this normaly is a CV joint on its way out. Be warned the can just let go and you end up with no drive.

Could be driveshaft or CV joint I guess mate.

would that account for the intermittent wobble as well?

any idea what i am looking at to replace it?

if the cv joint is worn then it would allow the driveshaft to wobble about which would probably account for the occasional wobble you feel through the wheel too. if theres a regular tap in time with the wheel turning on full lock then sounds like this.

grab the driveshaft near the outer cv joint and try wiggling it - you should feel any play there too. Also with the front wheel in the air try rotating the wheel - see how much play there is before the driveshaft itself starts turning. if the joints on the way out the wheel will probably turn a fair bit before the driveshaft moves.

to check your wheel bearing just jack it up and grab the wheel at 6 and 12 o'clock and try rocking it back and forward - you will feel any play quite obviously

wheel bearing is an easier and cheaper job than a cv joint - just got to take the wheel and disc etc off, shouldnt take more than half an hour. cv joint more expensive part plus you have to pop the bottom ball joint to get the driveshaft out usually. jack it up and give the wheel a wiggle - you'll soon see if its that

Well mate i would def go with the driveshaft option, but as someone said could well be a collapsed bearing, not a wearing one as this just usually makes a humming noise, bugger hey.

Some wheel bearings have to pressed out mate. Which do take time

C V joint only takes seconds after you drop the bottom ball joint.
